The population of the Western territories is of interest to a Postal History collector
because they give a clear picture of the relative scarcity of certain material. For example, there
were only 7300 inhabitants of the the Territory of Saskatchewan in 1891. Clearly, there was only a
very limited amount of mail produced by so few people and it is no wonder that material from any
town except Prince Albert is extremely scarce for the period before 1891.
