INTRODUCTION TO THE SMALL QUEEN ISSUE



The Small Queens are a difficult issue to study. There is a very limited supply of material and there are not thousands of Plate Proofs sitting in the Postal Archives as there are for the Admirals. Many of the items of interest for this issue are variations in shade and in perforation. The shades show up poorly on a computer screen and the perforations not at all.

To do justice to this issue I feel that it would be necessary to have an accumulation of material on the order of the 'Simpson' collection. Unfortunately I'm not sure if it will be possible to achieve that feat again.

These articles and exhibits are only a beginning. Hopefully they can be expanded and improved over the years.
